Privacy Policy
In short: Lumy collects no data. Your photos, ratings and edits stay on your Mac, and the app never connects to the internet.

Who we are
Lumy is a macOS app for culling and editing photos. It is developed and published by Vincenzo Gallina, an independent developer based in Italy (European Union). Where this policy says “we”, it means Vincenzo Gallina. You can reach us at vincenzogallinadeveloper@gmail.com.
The data we collect
None. Lumy has no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party code that collects data. We have no servers that receive anything from the app, so we never see your photos, your ratings, your edits or any information about you or your Mac.
Lumy runs in Apple’s App Sandbox without network access: macOS itself prevents it from connecting to the internet.
What Lumy keeps on your Mac
- Your photos are read only from the folders you choose, through the macOS open panel or by dragging them into the window. Lumy never modifies the original files.
- Ratings, colour labels, pick/reject flags, edits, presets, snapshots and history are stored in a local catalog inside the app’s container on your Mac.
- Previews are made on your Mac and kept in the app’s cache, so photos open quickly.
- Folder access: to reopen your folders at the next launch, Lumy keeps a reference to them (a security-scoped bookmark). Removing a folder from the sidebar removes that reference.
- XMP files: if the option is on in Settings, ratings and labels are also written to an .xmp file next to each photo, so other programs can read them. You can turn this off at any time.
- Exported photos are saved where you choose. You decide which metadata (camera, lens, date, GPS position) they include.
Everything Lumy does with your photos, including automatic masks for subjects and people, is computed on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded.
Things you start yourself
- Share uses the macOS share menu. The photos go only to the app or service you pick, under that service’s own privacy policy.
- Edit in another app opens the photos you chose in the program you chose, on your Mac.
- Help me translate (in Settings) prepares an email in your mail app with the corrections you write and the screenshots you add. Nothing is sent until you send it yourself, and only what you see in the message is included.
Apple
Lumy is distributed through the Mac App Store, so purchases and downloads are handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. If you have chosen in macOS settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. They contain technical information about the crash, never your photos or personal data. You can change this in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
Deleting your data
Because everything lives on your Mac, deleting it is entirely in your hands:
- remove a folder from the sidebar to stop Lumy from accessing it (its ratings and edits stay in the catalog, so they come back if you open the folder again);
- to erase the catalog and previews, quit Lumy and delete its data folder,
~/Library/Containers/com.vincenzogallina.lumy, then delete the app; - delete the .xmp files next to your photos if you no longer want them.
Your original photos are never touched.
Children
Lumy collects no data from anyone, children included.
Your rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data. As we hold no personal data from Lumy, there is nothing for us to access or delete. If you write to us by email, we use your message only to reply to you and we delete it when it is no longer needed.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date. If Lumy ever started handling data differently, the policy would be updated before that version is released.
